Something Different!

Well it has been a couple of weeks since I last posted anything on here. I was away for a few days during this time for work which got me thinking about other photographs, other than music photos that I have taken.

I was actually on the Murray River with a school group as I am finishing a postgrad teaching degree at the moment and am a kayaking instructor. I took my camera along to take a few happy snaps of my students and started thinking about all the other pics that I have taken of great landscapes and people over the last couple of years.

'Murray Mirror' - This photo was taken on the Murray River last year near a place called Chowilla Station near Renmark in South Australia.

'Nildottie Sunrise' - The amazing sunrise that I woke up to one morning whilst completing a solo 650km kayaking trip.

The photos below were taken on my most recent trip to Nepal in 2003. I am a keen outdoors enthusiast and have travelled to many amazing places throughout the years.

'Sunset Beauty' - This photo was sunset on Macchupuchare taken from Annapurna Base Camp. Macchupuchare has never been climbed because it is a holy mountain, such a beautiful sight!

'Trekkers view' - Three trekkers enjoy the view of Annapurna (8091m) the 10th highest mountain in the world.

'Prayers Above' - Prayer flags flutter in the wind on this memorial at 4100m above sea level at Annupurna Base Camp.

'Chandra' - This is a portrait of my guide and good friend Chandra just below Annapurna Base Camp.

'Relaxing' - in Southern Nepal, Chitwan National Park

More photos can be found by looking in my photo gallery. l will add more as I sort through the back catalogue!

Most of the photos found in my gallery are available for purchase. Please contact me via email for more information!

Bob Evans

As mentioned in an earlier post, Saturday night I headed along to see Bob Evans aka Kevin Mitchell of Jebediah fame. Was a good night out, supported by a new local band, Saving Savvanah. Bob's infectious pop/rock tunes had everyone leave with a smile! Below are a couple of pics from the night.

What a Week!

The Datsuns

Well, what a week! On Tuesday I got a phone call late in the arvo to tell me that if I met someone at the door that night I could get in to see Pearl Jam! Wow! What a show, it took me ages to stand there and realise that I was actually watching a group that I grew up listening too!

Didn't get to shoot the show (Apparently no one did here in Adelaide) but I am reviewing it for one of our two street press dB Magazine. Check out the review on 6/12 by clicking on the link to the right! Unfortunately the great mag only comes out fortnightly.

Last night I headed along to see The Datsuns supported by The Casanovas. Was a great night of dirty rock n' roll!! Below are a couple of photos I took of the show. More can be found in my gallery! Tonight I am off to shoot Bob Evans. I was meant to shoot one of his shows about 3 months ago but was sick the day of the show so had to pull out so I am looking forward to seeing Bob do his thing!

New Photos Added

I have recently added a number of new photos to my gallery. I hope to add a heap more over the coming week when I have more time!! There should be another 5 or so galleries up by the end of next week so keep checking back!

Busy time for live music here in Adelaide over the next week! If all goes to plan, this week I will shoot John Butler Trio, The Datsuns and Bob Evans. On top of that U2 have just left town, Pearl Jam are here this week and we have Elton John, Robbie Williams and Kylie all about to visit! Bring it on!

Fuse Festival

Taasha Coates - The Audreys

Tonight I headed along to the Electric Light Hotel in town to hear about 'Fuse'. Fuse Festival is run in conjunction with the Adelaide Fringe Festival and consists of live music events and two days of seminars and workshops. The other reason for the night was for people to get together and 'network' with other people in the industry along with the opportuity to hear from and chat to Alistair (The Audrey's Manager) and PJ (Hilltop Hoods Manager).

The thing that I really took out of the night was the fact that here in South Australia we really need to build a network and community of like minded people... all interested in helping the SA industry grow and prosper. Indeed, since the Hilltop Hoods and The Audrey's both collected ARIA awards recently, we need to capitalise on what we have here... an amazing music scence that needs supporting!

So if you are from SA and are reading this, log onto the Fuse Website (link to the right) and find out about getting involved in helping to shape the direction of the music scence in the state.

Little Birdy Rock The Gov

I shot Little Birdy and the Red Riders at the Gov last night... After a busy weekend I wasn't exactly excited about another night out knowing that I had to go to work early in the morning!

All in all a great show, they definately have a good following here in little ol' Adelaide!

Sarah Blasko

Thursday night I headed along to see Sarah Blasko play at the Governor Hindmarsh to launch her new album, What the Sea Wants, the Sea Will Have. I had not seen her play live before so I was stoked to get the opportunity to take some pics of her.

The gig was great! Sarah is such a beautiful lady and has an amazing voice! Check my gallery (link coming!!) in a couple of days to see the rest of the pics! Or, click on the Fasterlouder link and look for them in the Adelaide photos section!

My First Post!!

Michael Franti

Well, my first blog post! Never really been one of these blogging/internet type people but thought it was time to get on board!! I regularly look at a music photographer from Sydney, Daniel Boud blog and being a big fan of his shots I thought I better start a blog to show off my work as well!

I have been taking photos at gigs around Adelaide for about five years... It all started when I was bored at university and was reading the unipress and saw an add asking for people to contribute. I figured it would be a good side show to my education and with free access to gigs, being able to meet and interview bands and free cds, what did I have to lose!

After a bit of time out last year, I got back into live music photography earlier this year when I shot the Hilltop Hoods album launch with a mate (The same person that had got me into the game in the first place) and remembered how cool it can be and decided to get right back into it!

I have shot a lot of gigs this year so far and will put up a gallery of photos as soon as I get the time!! I will use this blog to keep you up to date with whats going on and to show some of my favourite pics that I have taken!

Just remember kiddies, you cannot use my pics without my written permission! It's called copyright! (I have had probs in the past... just wanted to remind people!)

Enjoy! I hope to build this site up quickly and post at least once a week! Oh, and feel free to leave comments!

Peace,
Andrew
